What is Gift Aid?
If you are a UK taxpayer and you make a donation that is 10% more than the admission price, the Government will give us an extra 25% on top of your entrance fee. It’s called a gift aid visit and makes a massive difference to charities like Paignton Zoo.
Conditions:
- Gift Aid donations can only be made in respect of UK taxpayers and their families.
- You must pay an amount of UK income tax and/or capital gains tax for the current tax year (6 April to 5 April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) that you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year (currently 25p for every £1 given). Please note that other taxes such as VAT & Council Tax do not qualify.
- This declaration is in respect of a Gift Aid donation which is equivalent to the normal admission charge to Paignton Zoo plus at least 10%. The whole amount so given is regarded as a donation under Gift Aid and we can recover tax you have paid from HMRC.
- Once you have agreed to gift aid your donation you need do nothing more, we will simply reclaim the tax you have already paid on your donation to Paignton Zoo from HMRC.
- The information you give will remain confidential and will not be passed to any organisation other than HM Revenue & Customs (formerly Inland Revenue).
Tax claimed by the charity:
- The charity will reclaim from HMRC 25p of tax on every £1 you give.
- If you pay income tax at the higher rate, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self Assessment tax return if you want to receive the additional tax relief due to you.
